Pressrelease: Danish CapaSystems releases Green IT

The Software-developers at Scandinavia’s leading provider of System Management-solutions, Danish CapaSystems A/S, has developed a green Power Management, which can save both the environment and the electricity bill for an unnecessary burden. The Danish Electricity Saving Trust welcomes the new software

Hedehusene, the 15. september 2009: Green IT is in particular on the agenda a few months before Denmark is hosting the COP15 - UN Climate Change Conference. Therefore, the employees at CapaSystems A/S have been busy finalizing a product that can truly save both the environment and the electricity bill for an unnecessary burden.

The new Power Management module from CapaSystems ensures an automatic shut down of all the PC’s that employees 'forget' to turn off when they leave from work. A study from Great Britain shows that on average 30% of all employees leave their PC’s on mode after work.

Bo Soerensen IT Manager at ‘T. Hansen Group A/S’ recognizes the challenge. The T. Hansen Group has for a longer period made use of the patch, which has formed the basis for the new software:
- With the automatic shutdown of our 400 PC’s we will save around 33.300 euro per year on the electricity bill, just by shutting down the PC’s that the employees forget.

- With Power Management we automate the green ambitions for companies and save them for a great amount of electricity bills, says CEO Nicolai Stumpe, CapaSystems A/S.

The Power Management module is installed with CapaInstaller Management Solution and is initiated by registering the PC’s that should be turned off in tables.
When the time for turning off is occurring, the Power Management automatically check each PC, which is in the table, and if a PC is still turned on but has been idle for a specified number of minutes, then the PC is shut down. The shutdown of the PC´s is implemented in such a way that no data are lost. When the employee turns on the PC the next working day, then the PC starts up in the same state as it was in when it was left.

Apart from the Power Management-module, the new CMS 4 includes other renewals such as an improved SAM plug-in (Software Asset Management) and Windows 7 (x64) support.

Facts:

The Danish Electricity Saving Trust welcomes Power Management to the market. According to the Head of Secretariat Göran Wilke the Danish Electricity Saving Trust has been waiting for software, which can automate electricity saving on computers.

A stationary PC that is turned on uses about 0.105 kilowatt. If it is turned on between 5 pm and 9 am – i.e. 16 hours – the PC is using approximately 2 kilowatt costing 0.23 Euro.
For each powered PC that will be turned off by Power Management, companies can thus save some 0.40 Euro per day.
Although the saving of 0.40 Euro per day may not seem as much, the total savings on the energy bill in larger companies can be significant. In a company with 1000 PC´s, where 30% of PC´s are left turned on after work and where they work 225 days a year, the yearly electricity savings amount to approximately 15,000 kWh. This corre-sponds to approx. 25,000 Euro in saved electricity costs and a reduction of the CO2 emissions on 60 tons per year.
